Microsoft releases two new Cortana commercials for Valentines Day
Microsoft has been vigorously pushing ads that show how much better Cortana is compared to Siri. The last few Cortana vs. Siri commercials came back in November where a Windows Phone device and an iPhone usually had a conversation about certain features, and Cortana obviously taking the upper hand with her naturally-sounding voice and convenient people-based reminders.
Now, two new videos have been released in time for Valentine’s Day, and while they are not Cortana vs. Siri commercials, they do take digs at Apple’s virtual assistant. The first video is titled ‘Breaking up’ and features a close-up for a man talking about the hardship of a breakup until he met someone who changed his life. This new “someone” knows him, and reminds him when to leave the house on time so he’s not late, and not to forget his wallet and more, all while the camera zooms out to reveal a Lumia device and he ends by saying that because of this new someone, he “will never go back to Siri”.
The second video is identical to the first one with the exception of the subject, this time a woman who proceeds to tell us a story about the time she told her parents about a “new love”. She loves how this new person helps her be punctual, as well as how she sings to her and tells her jokes. The twist comes when she describes how her dad put his arms around her and says: “Honey, we know you were never an iPhone girl.”
The two new videos are certainly a departure from the more direct nature of the Cortana vs. Siri ads, but it’s a welcome change, and who doesn’t enjoy a good twist? With not a single mention of Siri in the video titles, you don’t go in expecting it to have the ending that it does. Let us know what you think of the new commercials in the comments below!
